A short interview with Luisanna Sánchez, MD - Pediatric Hematologist

What inspires you about your work?

I draw immense inspiration from the stories and resilience of my patients with sickle cell disease and other blood disorders. Witnessing their unwavering strength and determination in the face of adversity fuels my passion to provide them with the best care possible. The unique challenges they face and the courage they exhibit on a daily basis motivate me to continuously seek ways to enhance their lives through innovative medical approaches and unwavering support.

What do you hope to accomplish for patients?

My ultimate goal is to ensure that every child battling sickle cell disease has the opportunity to thrive and enjoy a full, fulfilling life as they transition into adulthood. By focusing on prevention, advancing clinical research, and establishing standardized care protocols, I aim to significantly improve patient outcomes. I envision a future where these young individuals not only overcome the limitations of their condition but also have equal access to opportunities, enabling them to pursue their dreams without constraints imposed by their health.

What do you like about IHTC and its approach to care?

IHTC holds a special place in my heart due to its comprehensive and patient-centric approach to care. The center’s commitment to bringing together a multidisciplinary team of experts, encompassing medical, pharmaceutical, physical therapy, education, dental, and social work domains, reflects a holistic understanding of the challenges faced by patients with hematological disorders. By placing patients at the forefront of every decision, the center ensures that no aspect of their well-being is overlooked, fostering a nurturing and empowering environment where patients receive truly comprehensive care tailored to their unique needs. This collaborative approach resonates with my own aspirations to provide the best possible care and support to my patients, further solidifying my admiration for IHTC’s mission.
